The Subservient Chicken website alone is reason enough for it. A actor dressed as a chicken in a webcamed appartment serves your commands and you can watch Big Brother style over the internet, because at Burger King you are supposed to get your “chicken the way you want”. If this is not enough to be considered a violation of human dignity, I don’t know.
Just do me the favor and be nice to the poor person in that costume.

- DEVONthink * more like a paperless document organizer
- note: $20, personal: $40, professional: $75 (overview)
- uses OSX spell checker
- content import: e.g. PDF, word etc.
- can handle html, url (incl caching content), images and other non text content
- can convert e.g. PDF (scans) to text
- keeps everything in one database
- integration of unkown file types is only possible by linking to them.
- no possibility to plug in external filters.
- app is still at an early stage of it’s life cycle so many features might come in the future. The features present work well.
- => The focus of this app is more on organizing documents. It lacks a usable keyboard navigations for making many quick notes and structuring them. I consider buying this for managing my PDF Documents, Scans, Contracts and stuff. Handling stuff like that and retrieving information is handles by DevonThink quite well. The GUI is well designed. However for my need to make own notes and structure and outline them I’ll definitly get something else.
- Hog Bay Notebook
- $20
- database files, multi databases, one can be default database to open with the app
- can export to txt, doc, rtf, rtfd, opml
- Hog Bay Notebook can import txt, rtf, rtfd, doc, opml, and old hbnk files.
- WikiStyleLinks; new pages are created on demand by following link.
- search result list displays all found entries
- bookmark menu; you can bookmark specific entries to jump to them easily later.
- => This is my notebook choice for now. The GUI is well designed and very lean. It only does text notes, but that well. I can start noting down first ideas about a subject in a seperate and then develope it further. The resulting outline and notes can be exported to a word or rtf file for further processing in a word processor.
- Alepin (incl. Blowfish encryption)
- $10
- minimalistic, but neat notebook for text files
- no structuring/outining features, notes are ordered sequetially but can be ordered.
- search does not list all notes containing string, but just the first occurance.
- => GUI is ok, but this program is too simple for my needs.
- NotePad Deluxe (aka. NPD)
- $ 25
- encryption
- multi DBs
- no OSX like design
- structure, labels
- export: text, rtf - partly, complete
- => the app is anchored at a floating pallette and that is something i personally dislike. The GUI design is ok, but not (yet) OSX style. However I personally do not work with it well. The app has a fair feature set but I don’t feel well using it for my needs. I could not find keyboard shortcuts for moving notes around within the outline structure!? This app will not be my choice.
- PocketNotes (no anonymous demo download && no screenshot => no test)
- Scrapper not as much a notebook / more for storing clips
- ScrapX ditto

My inner child is sixteen years old!
Life’s not fair! It’s never been fair, but while
adults might just accept that, I know
something’s gotta change. And it’s gonna
change, just as soon as I become an adult and
get some power of my own.
How Old is Your Inner Child?
